Onwards to Geraldton

After a pretty social week or two in Bunbury, it was time to move on. Our next stop was Geraldton for four nights. We’ve been told it’s pretty rough here so be careful of leaving our belongings out. Time would tell!

This stop was kind of felt like the half way point of our WA trip. The south west and Perth now complete, now on to the coastal drive up the west coast before we headed to the Northern Territory.

Mon, Jun 12th – (Day 67)

GERALDTON – Time to leave Perth for the quiet life for a couple of months! Today we had a 4.5hr drive to Geraldton, with a few little stops planned along the way.

On the road to Geraldton

Our first stop along the way was Hangover Bay, a quaint little area with a lovely beach, but not much else. Next we stopped in Cervantes which was a tiny little town with not much happening.

We stopped at Jurien Bay for some lunch at a bakery and got some vegetarian sausage rolls. A couple of bites in Adam goes “this tastes like absolute shit” and sure enough, it was a meat one. That was definitely a taste we certainly didn’t miss!

A quick stop in Jurien Bay

The prick at the bakery took it back and gave us another vegetarian one, but Adam ended up getting Subway instead. Then it was back on the road! We listened to some of the Collingwood vs Melbourne match now that Ready Player One was finally finished.

We arrived into Geraldton just before sunrise. It was a pretty baron caravan park, but it wasn’t too bad. IGA was about 5 minutes around the corner so we grabbed some stuff for tea and cooked it in the camp kitchen.

After tea, Linda wanted to play her Zelda game but the TV short circuited, so we now had a job for tomorrow – find a new TV cable!

Tuesday, Jun 13th – (Day 68)

This morning we woke up about 9am or so and spent the morning watching Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Denver needed to win this to secure their first ever championship and win they did!

The rest of the morning we both played our games and killing a bit of time, then we decided to drive into town to have a bit of a business meeting and catch up on some work, as well as an explore. Plus we needed a new cable for the television.

The Murchison Pub was surprisingly very nice

On the way in the car was making a bit of a weird noise, so our first stop was a mechanic. It was the belt which was making some noise and after he sprayed some water on it, the noise stopped. It was just like that magic spray the soccer players use after they go down like they have been shot by a sniper rifle.

Then we did a bit of a walk around looking for somewhere for lunch. We settled on Dome Coffee (which we have seen all over the place). It’s a bit of a poor mans Starbucks and was super expensive for a tiny meal.

After lunch we went to sort out the cable and it turns out we could buy a replacement fuse for $2, score! We spent the next hour or two at the Murchison Tavern doing some work and listening to the classic 80s tunes they had roaring through the pub.

Back to chill out at our campsite

Then it was on to Coles to get some supplies for tea and back to the caravan park to do what we normally do.

Wednesday, June 14th – (Day 69)

After a sleep in, this morning was spent sitting around not doing too much at all, pretty much just playing our games. Then we made ourselves some lunch and decided to head into town again.

First stop was the bakery to grab a cinnamon scroll, then we went for a walk along the beach foreshore area. We saw some big sign that showed nice walks around the area, so decided to go on the West End walk.

Enjoying the West End Walk scenery

This took us around the houses and into a bit of a westie area at one point. But then it also took us to the nice part of town, right near some lavish school, which I assume is the expensive part of Geraldton.

Then we went for a walk to the HMAS Sydney II Memorial which was some war ship that was sunk in the area way back in 1942 or something. It was a steep walk to the top of a hill, but the views were outstanding.

But now we’d walked a fair bit so decided to head back home, stopping via IGA. On the drive back home we stopped by The Big Marble, which was a huge big sphere resembling a marble which, when aligned with the ocean horizon, created a pretty awesome scene. Apparently it’s best viewed at sunset, so we decided to save that for tomorrow.

Like usual, the rest of the evening was just chilling out. Our caravan park was pretty basic so there wasn’t really that much to do here other than relax.

Thursday, Jun 15th – (Day 70)

Our last day in Geraldton was a pretty lazy one! The morning was much the same as yesterday just chilling out reading, or playing our games, or little beach walks.

A view of our caravan park in Geraldton

The plan today was to go back into town to the museum and look at the old gaol, as well as go to the Milky Way Galaxy presentation thing they had setup near the museum.

Well, that was the plan anyway. At about 2:30pm we planned to head in but discovered all of those things closed at 3pm, so that killed that idea. So instead we just stayed at the park and did our thing.

We even made a new friend whilst we were lounging around. A little bird we named Wags paid us a visit by flying into our caravan, Linda having to save him and take him back outside.

Our new friend Wags!

Then headed back to the big marble we saw yesterday for the sunset.

They were right, the marble did look incredible at sunset, the photos didn’t do it justice. Then we went to pick up a Coles order after that. Tomorrow we head off to Monkey Mia for 7 nights, which is pretty remote and not near any supermarkets, so we stocked up on a weeks work of groceries so we wouldn’t have to rely on expensive restaurants.

After that we went back to the park, cooked some tea and packed up. We also had a bottle of vinegar tip over in the cupboard, so that kept us busy sorting that stinking mess out for a while.
